The 'Do it yourself' trend has inspired businesses and consumers from all parts of the world, during the last decade.

From solar generators to fashionable accessories and even electric cars, everything could be manufactured easier, at home, with just a little bit of knowledge and the right tools.

However, in the DIY era, the 3D printer unveiled by Cubify during the 2012 CES organized in Las Vegas counts as a game-changer, enabling users to make their own crafts in the privacy and comfort of their household.

According to its developers, the gadget was launched based on the idea that kids would be eager to manufacture their own toys.

Despite this fact, its functionality provides several other benefits, for all age categories, inspiring enthusiastic designers, engineers, architects and basically every other person eager to obtain one-of-a-kind objects without having to purchase them in stores.

The material used by the innovative printer is ABS plastic, or #7 plastic, which can be easily recycled. Therefore, users won't have to worry about the impact of their future products on the environment.

Moreover, this is just the beginning for the gadget launched by Cubify. It can become even more eco-friendly, by involving 100% sustainable materials, like plant-based plastic or recycled fabrics.

Plus, once the product is made by kids with their very own hand, this task will increase their responsibility and annihilate the tendency of simply discarding old products, like toys and games, without being aware of how their conduct is increasing solid waste rates.

The device can print almost anything smaller than a 5.5" cube, offering users unlimited possibilities and converting them into eco-conscious manufacturers. It costs $1,299 (€1,012),  a rather high price which could drop as its popularity will most likely grow in the long term.

Nevertheless, it stimulates kids' creativity and could help them become more responsible and eco-friendly. A beneficial change in their attitude could liberate overcrowded landfills, reducing the alarming amount of waste generated every year.
