Nokia has announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that it plans to bring a US optimized variant of its Nokia E63 handset on the North American market. According to the company, the phone will be made available during the following weeks and it will feature a price tag of $279, which should be rather accessible for this great messaging device.

“Consumers have stated loud and clear that there is a demand for devices with a QWERTY form factor that are optimized for the United States,” said Alessandro Lamanna, vice president of sales, retail, Nokia Americas. “Building on the success of the award winning Nokia E71, Nokia E63 brings a fully featured QWERTY smartphone to an entry level pricepoint.”

It's a common fact that the Nokia E63 comes with a QWERTY keypad, with 3G network capabilities and with the Symbian S60 3rd Edition operating system, which enables users to download and install favorite applications from thousands available, so that they can customize the device in the most personal manner. The Nokia E63 can be considered more than just a QWERTY smartphone, but rather a small computer that fits inside your pocket.

Owners of a Nokia E63 device are allowed to switch between two distinctively customized home screens, one to be used while at work and another one for fun. Applications like digital music and video player, corporate or personal email including Mail for Exchange, camera functionality, games, Lotus Notes and a variety of standard consumer ISPs are available for each home screen. Users are also able to cycle through their favorite websites, blogs and social networks by means of the included full HTML browser with Flash support.

A Files on Ovi subscription of 1GB of online file storage is also available for free with Nokia E63. Users are enabled to remotely access their PC files through the Files on Ovi service even if the computer is offline. The service also offers the “Anytime Files” feature, providing users with a way to keep their files updated so that they could be accessed by a remote device.

The Nokia E63 will come to the US market in ruby red or ultramarine blue and will be made available unlocked at various retail channels in the United States. Users will also be able to acquire the device from Nokia Flagship Stores in New York and Chicago and from the company's official website.
