If there's anything that'll shift some PSP units, that's Skype alright! Not only is the new PSP 33% lighter, 19% thinner than its predecessor, being equipped with a video-out port on top of it all, but it is now going to feature Skype support too (thanks videogamer.com). The service will probably be up and running immediately after the CES presentation in Vegas next
week.

Browsing through the features of the PSP system on the Sony products page, you too will find it most interesting that the the PlayStation Portable now sports an additional characteristic: the ability to "call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system." How do you like that?

Of course, a system update is definitely in order first, so keep an eye for headlines like this the following weeks. Oh, almost forgot, here's a few details on Skype, just so everyone's on the same level: Skype allows users to make telephone calls from their computer to other Skype users free of charge, or to landlines and cell phones for a fee. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer, short message service, video conferencing and its ability to circumvent firewalls.

Sure enough CES 2008 should unveil even more great stuff for Sony's, Microsoft's and even Nintendo's systems, even though info about the latter's announcements at this year's event in Vegas are yet to be disclosed (or leaked).

Microsoft's plans, although not fully disclosed yet, reportedly include a big announcement on behalf of everyone's favorite entrepreneur, Mr Bill Gates, concerning a new Xbox SKU, or an HD-DVD playing unit or something of the sort. We're awfully tempted to believe something big is going to go down at CES, since Gates is stepping down from his position at Microsoft soon.

And if that's not reason enough for Sony invest in the PSP's potential even more, what is?
