As expected (or, better said, pretty much like everyone else in the industry), Lexar has come up with quite a few novelties for this year's CES. Some of the announcements are related to the company's collaborations with Kodak and Disney, one to its Crucial brand, while another to a very important upgrade to the company's SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) format memory cards in all three of Lexar's product lines including Professional, Platinum II, and standard. And without further ado, let's go right into the company's offering.

Crucial Solid-State Drives

As you've been able to read in a previous article on the subject, the company has unveiled a new line of Crucial solid-state drives (SSDs), available initially in capacities of 32GB and 64GB. The drives feature an industry standard 2.5-inch drive enclosure with a native SATA 3.0Gb/s interface. Crucial SSDs are more durable, require less power, and offer greater overall system performance than traditional hard disk drives.

Kodak-branded products

Lexar's partnership with Kodak seems to be quite a solid one, since the former has released a wide range of branded products, targeting several different market segments. The first products we'll talk about are the new microSD and microSDHC Mobile memory cards, which are designed to be used with today's memory-hungry mobile phones, but also come packed with free adapters for use in miniSD and SD devices.

The company is also debuting at CES the new 8GB Kodak Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) and 8GB Kodak SDHC High Performance memory cards, which are designed for use with SDHC-enabled devices, including digital cameras, MP3 players, and more. Furthermore, the high-speed, high-capacity Kodak SDHC High Performance is recommended for rapid-fire picture taking and capturing TV-quality video with an SDHC-enabled device.

Finally, Lexar has also announced the Kodak USB Flash Drive, a stylish and compact drive designed for total compatibility with Kodak EASYSHARE Digital Picture Frames, thus allowing users to simply plug the drive directly into the frame to easily view stored photos.

Disney-branded items

Lexar has also announced a few new models that resulted from its partnership with Disney. Thus, the memory manufacturer has unveiled a few products from the Disney my*style USB Flash and SD Card series, which includes USB flash drives, fashionable USB bracelets, and SD card multi-packs. All the storage products come with preloaded content featuring popular characters, including buddy icons and wallpapers.

SHDC Cards upgraded to 8 GB

The first product from the new family of cards is the Professional 133x 8GB SDHC version, which delivers a minimum sustained write speed capability of 20MB per second, thus allowing photographers to fully leverage the camera's high-speed processor and accelerate image download times. In addition, the new 133x 8GB SDHC cards provide users of high-definition camcorders and point-and-shoot digital cameras with video capture capability the opportunity to store full-motion video without interruption.

The second upgraded item is the Lexar Platinum II 60x 8GB SDHC, which allows consumers to take a large number of photos in quick succession using the "burst mode" feature of their digital cameras, as well as fully leverage the video capabilities of their SDHC-enabled point-and-shoot digital cameras. The Lexar Platinum II SDHC cards are speed-rated at 60x, capable of a minimum sustained write speed of 9MB per second.

Furthermore, the company has also upgraded its line of standard SDHC cards, with the Lexar 8GB SDHC model designed for a wide range of popular uses, including storing still images, video, and music.
