Kingston used the CES 2008 to unveil three new Data Traveler (DT) USB flash drives: the DTHyperX, which provides very high data transfer rates (but at premium price tags), the DT110 (for the budget-conscious users) and the DT400, which allows users to work among multiple PCs by directly synchronizing files, email and Internet browser settings onto the drive.
Thus, the HyperX, which is available in 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB versions, has data transfer rates of 30MB/sec. read and 20MB/sec. write, among the fastest on the market. The drive is designed to run on any Windows platform but specifically enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost on Vista-based systems, which means that it can always double as an extra-RAM module. The HyperX is
quite expensive (as far as flash drives go), since it starts at $74 for the 2 GB model and goes up to $266 for the 8GB version, which is a bit much for most users, despite of its advanced features.
However (probably in order to compensate for the HyperX' price tags), Kingston has also introduced the 110 model, which serves the needs of budget-conscious users as well as consumers looking for significant storage capacity in a lightweight, compact design. The DT110 features a capless, retractable USB connector for ease-of-use and safe housing, and is also available in different colors according to capacity: purple (1GB), blue (2GB), red (4GB) and green (8GB). Furthermore, as mentioned above, it's also quite attractively priced, ranging from 12 US dollars for the 1 GB model up to $104 for the 8 GB drive.
Finally, the DataTraveler 400, which is available in capacities up to 8GB, comes packed with MigoSync software that helps users navigate between systems. In addition to standard file synchronization, MigoSync also comes with Universal Mail Format, which enables a user to access email on a guest PC, even when it does not support the user's primary email application for formats including Windows Mail, Outlook, Outlook Express or Lotus Notes.
Furthermore, the drive's built-in SecureTraveler software allows the creation of a 'Privacy Zone,' whereby a user creates and maintains a password-protected area of the drive to keep data safe, while data can be accessed at some pretty decent speeds (20MB/sec. read and 10MB/sec. write). The device is not even that expensive either, the price tag ranging between $31 for the 2 GB model and $137 for the 8 GB DT400.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
