India is one of the emerging markets where entry-level mobile phones are the main source of revenue for handset manufacturers. However, things are about to change as Samsung decided to launch its all-rounder Galaxy S Android smartphone for Indian customers.

Indian carrier Reliance has recently announced that a CDMA version of the popular Galaxy S will be available in the coming weeks for its customers.

This would be the second Android smartphone available through Reliance, as the carrier has previously launched the entry-level Galaxy I899 last year in July.

The new CDMA Galaxy S will be known as Samsung SCH-I500, which is the same model number as Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate and US Cellular's Samsung Mesmerize.

Apparently, there are some differences between the Galaxy I500 and the GSM variant, as the CDMA version will come loaded with Android 2.1 OS and features LED flash for the camera, 2GB of internal memory and support for Kies Mini.

The original GSM Galaxy S has already been upgraded to Android 2.2 Froyo, it also lacks LED flash for the camera and packs 8GB of internal memory.

The Galaxy I500 comes with a 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution, Gorilla Glass display, TouchWiz 3.0 UI, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, touch-sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and Swype text input.

Other key features of the device include: 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor with PowerVR SGX540 GPU, CDMA 1X and EVDO Rev. A support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, DLNA function, Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support, FM radio with RDS and GPS with A-GPS support.

It also sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, video recording capabilities (720p@30fps), as well as front-facing VGA camera.

Unfortunately, Reliance hasn't disclosed any official release date or price tag for the phone yet.
