The team might ask fans to pay for a big expansion

The development team at CD Projekt RED reiterates its stance of supporting all its titles for free by saying that it has no plans to deliver any sort of paid downloadable content for the coming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the game director, tells The Examiner that, “We could sell extra content to gamers 'down the road,' but we don’t believe in that.”

The gaming industry has developed a habit of delivering DLC for all big releases, sometimes including content that was originally cut from the core game, at times very soon after the initial launch.

The developer adds, “We believe patches, fixes and additional content should be provided to gamers free of charge. Only something really big, and something that will not make you feel ripped off, justifies a price tag.”

Since The Witcher series was first launched, the studio has offered significant post-launch improvements for free, including 2.0 updates that significantly enhance the game mechanics and eliminate a number of bugs that the community has found.

CD Projekt RED believes that the trust of the player base is more important than revenue created by DLC and allows a series like The Witcher to grow continuously.

The fact that Konrad Tomaszkiewicz says that his team is willing to charge for a big post-launch package might suggest that the team is considering releasing an expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The new game will see protagonist Geralt deal with the nightmares of his past as he faces one of the most powerful forces in the world of the game, the spectral Wild Hunt.

The new game will use an open world structure and will include a revamped combat system.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be launched in the spring of next year on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
