Announced back in May, CD Projekt's CyberPunk project has just received a release name and a new setting. The new RPG title coming from the Polish company will be called CyberPunk 2077.

The name of the game also reveals the new setting, which has been moved several years in the future. Fans of the genre are probably acquainted with CyberPunk 2020's rules, which are pretty easy to apply to a video game.

However, Mike Pondsmith, creator of the CyberPunk universe wants something new and more solid for this project, which is why he decided to create a whole new setting for the RPG, CyberPunk 2077.

In order to understand the differences between various CyberPunk settings, Pondsmith explains:

“The Cyberpunk 2020 ‘Wardrobe & Style’ skill governs the knowledge about the right clothes to wear, when to wear them and how to look cool even in a spacesuit. As you can see, this skill covers quite a big area of lore and can be interpreted differently, depending on the situation and the players. In Cyberpunk 2077 this skill has to be tied to a specific gameplay mechanic.”

During today's CD Projekt conference, the company unveiled more details on the upcoming title, which will be set in the corrupt and tech-advanced world of the year 2077, as the name suggests.

The main story will take place in the Sandbox Environment of the Night City, while the game will be implemented with advanced RPG mechanics.

Obviously, these mechanics will be based on pen & paper RPG system, which will be upgraded to the 2077 setting. Players will have a huge arsenal of weapons, upgrades, implants and intriguing, but cool, high-tech gadgets.

According to developers, all equipment included in the game will reflect over 50 year of mankind progress, so be prepared for big surprises. More details on the upcoming title are available on the game's dedicated site.
