CBS has so far stayed away from the iTunes Music Store, preferring to try out their luck with Google Video and other services. However, it seems that the ice is finally going to break as Apple and CBS Sport have announced that the 2006 NCAA Division I Basketball Championship distributed by CBS Corporation's College Sports TV (CSTV)
will be available on the iTunes Music Store.
College basketball fans can pay $1.99 per game for condensed versions of all the 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball championship games, or, they can choose to opt for the "Season Pass" feature, which will cost $19.99 and will give them condensed versions of all 63 games the day after they are played. The 'Season Pass' is very much like the 'Multi Pass' option available for some of the Comedy Central TV shows, only it has been renamed appropriately to reflect the content it is referring to.
Whether or not more CBS content is on its way remains to be seen, but, one thing is for certain, the 'Passes' are going to be something we will be seeing more and more of. This deal will probably serve as a test, and if all goes well, CBS might very well start bringing more of their content to the table, after all, the iTunes Music Store has been good to NBC and ABC, so why shouldn't it be good to CBS too?
