As expected, CBS has ordered a new season of the hit investigative series “CSI.” Ted Danson, the star of the series, has signed a contract for 2 more years, Variety reports.

The main cast will return for the new season.

“A pickup for the show’s 14th season had been expected, given its solid performance in the Wednesday 10 p.m. time slot this season,” the movie publication writes.

“By next season, the mothership show may be the only one left in active production as ‘CSI: NY’ is expected to call it a wrap after this season. Elisabeth Shue and other key ‘CSI’ troupers are also on board to return,” Variety adds.

At least for the next season, Carol Mendelsohn will remain showrunner. She will also function as executive producer, together with Jerry Bruckheimer, Don McGill and creator Anthony Zuiker.
