Total War: Shogun 2 has just been launched and the developers that have worked on the game at The Creative Assembly are keen to make sure that gamers experience all that the new strategy game has to offer.

Craig Laycock, who is the senior community manager at the developer, has told Armchair General that modding is something that the team was interested in since starting development on Shogun 2, after they delivered Empire and Napoleon.

He stated, “Warscape was greatly polished with Napoleon, with Shogun 2, we really refined the engine. During that same time the modding community has been making their own tools from the Warscape engine, so the tool set that the community has developed is really solid now.”

He added, “The big names in the modding community seem confident that they can do a lot of retrofit mods right out of the box. We are also possibly planning a modding workshops that will teach people how to more easily mod the game.”

The community manager believes that players also need to ditch the image of the Total War series as essentially a single player game and look at all the multiplayer options that Shogun 2 offers.

The game allows players to create a unique avatar for all online battles, and each engagement will allow them to earn points that can be then used to upgrade the Daimyo they control and add retainers to his suite.

The game also offers the classic head-to-head battles and an option to play through the campaign cooperatively.

Of course, the main reason for the success or failure of Total War: Shogun 2 will be the performance of the Artificial Intelligence, which early reviews suggest can finally stand up in battle to a human opponent.

Total War: Shogun 2 is now out and only available on the PC.
