C Spire, the wireless carrier previously known as Cellular South, is getting ready to launch its 4G LTE network this year, and has just offered some more details on the matter.

The carrier is set to offer LTE capabilities to a number of 20 markets in Mississippi, and promises increased data transfer speeds when compared to the previously available 3G services.

The wireless services provider notes that the network will offer the enhanced speeds to a population of 1.2 million, and that it will cover 2,700 square miles and more than 360 cell sites.

When compared to the previously available 3G services in the area, the new network will deliver data speeds up to 10 times faster.

“Wireless networks are all about coverage, quality and speed, and the C Spire Wireless personalized network cannot be beat,” said Hu Meena, president and CEO for C Spire Wireless.

“We will continue to lead the way with our aggressive 4G LTE network upgrades so that our customers have the wireless services that allow them to do what they want to do when they need to do it in more places that matter to them.”

It should also be noted that the launched of this network in the aforementioned markets is only the first phase of a larger roll-out that the wireless carrier plans.

Starting with September this year, the following markets will benefit from access to the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network:

- Jackson metropolitan area - Mississippi Gulf Coast - In South Mississippi: the cities of Brookhaven, Columbia, Natchez, Petal, Hattiesburg, McComb and Lucedale; - In North Mississippi: the cities of Oxford, Tupelo, Corinth, New Albany, Pontotoc, Booneville, Starkville, Columbus and West Point; - In the Mississippi Delta, the cities of Yazoo City, Cleveland, Greenville, Greenwood and Clarksdale - In East Mississippi: the city of Meridian and parts of Lauderdale County

Through the new network, users will benefit from average data speeds from 4 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink, and of 1 to 5 Mbps on the uplink, David Smith, vice president of network engineering for C Spire Wireless, said. Additional info on the release can be found on the carrier's website.
