Byword is one in the top 3 apps for iOS when it comes to a simple, elegant writing app. You have it on your Mac and it can successfully replace TextEdit, Notes, Word or any writing app for that matter. On iOS it works even better because of the way it displays text and the extra features included in the keyboard.

You can save everything and get the documents synchronized via iCloud or Dropbox, and you can alternate between the light and dark theme in low light conditions for extra comfort. One of the best things about Byword is that it uses Markdown and the built-in features like footnotes, tables and cross-references make it a must-have app for writers.

Buying the Publishing options via in-app purchase takes the app to the next level. You can write something in Byword and publish to Blogger, Evernote, Tumblr, WordPress and others.

On Wednesday, Byword went to version 2.2 for OS X and iOS and a new set of features came along. On your iPhone, you can now insert images from Clipboard, Photo Library, iCloud and Dropbox as markdown references.

You can also upload images to WordPress. The last new feature is related to pdf documents. You can now share them or export them to another app. Some of the features came to the Mac version of the app.
