Microsoft has released the development resources necessary for customers running the latest iteration of Dynamics GP to extend the Business Portal capabilities of the product. Developers can now download the SDK designed specifically for Business Portal 5.0 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010. Companies already running the recently released Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 undoubtedly know that Business Portal has evolved to version 5.0. The Redmond company has worked to enhance Business Portal in the latest version of Dynamics GP 2010, delivering a number of improvements over the previous release, v4.0.

Of course, devs can leverage the SDK in order to build on Business Portal 5.0 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 themselves. “This SDK describes how to customize and create integrations for Business Portal 5.0 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010. The primary focus of this documentation is how to customize and create integrations for the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server version of Business Portal 5.0. Some of the customization and integration techniques can be used with the Windows SharePoint Services version of Business Portal 5.0,” Microsoft explained.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 was released to manufacturing in the second half of April 2010. Subsequently, the software giant started offering the solution to customers for purchase as of May 1st. According to the company, the next major version of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution for midsize businesses is right on track to follow Dynamics GP 2010 in the next two to three years.

There are a number of enhancements in Business Portal 5.0 for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, including:

“Dynamics GP Report Viewer web part: This web part can be used to view company-specific Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services reports.

“Application Administration: The setup pages applicable to the Business Portal applications can now be accessed in the new Administration Center. Users assigned to a BP application administrator role will have access to the Administration Center Home page and access to the administrative page(s) applicable to the role assigned. The BP Administrator is the only BP role that has access to the Site Settings page on the Business Portal site with access to the MBF administration pages.

“Business Portal help: The help system for Business Portal is now one collection, allowing you to search for information more easily. In previous releases, the Business Portal help was divided into several collections.

“Internet Explorer 8 support: Users can now use either Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or 8.0 to access Business Portal,” Microsoft revealed.
