Burnout Dominator is a video game developed by Criterion Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It was released in 2007 for the PlayStation 2 console from Sony, and also for the PlayStation Portable. The title is classified as a racing and driving game that can be played from a first and a third
person perspective.
As far as racing simulators are concerned, Burnout Dominator, a game in a series that is still getting updates, more than seven years since release, is more on the arcade side. It bears some striking similarities to Test Drive and to Need for Speed. There is lots of traffic in the game and the physics are coherent, even if a little forgiving towards the player.
The release offers a single player campaign as well as multiplayer modes. The third title in the series is more focused on aggressive driving, encouraging the player to go out and drive in the wrong lane and slide his way around corners. New Chaining Burnout moves have been added to increase the damage you can do, and also to make the game more spectacular.
As the game progresses, the player can unlock 40 cars and 70 other vehicles, with highlights being European exotics, American muscle cars, mid-size sedans, sports cars, compacts, buses and semi trucks. The player can also get parts and custom paints together to create his own personalized vehicle.
The game keeps the Burn Meter from the first title in the series, which is basically a gauge that fills up as you perform stunts and as you race into the incoming traffic. If the meter is filled, the car you are driving gets a speed boost.
GAMEPLAY HINTS
Getting off the rails
Use the following trick if you are having trouble on a level that has hard turns and you end up scraping against rails. Stop boosting, turn, and you will be free. Alternately, turn and start boosting. Watch out for traffic, because sometimes you will end up turning too much.
Easy points
At the start of Maniac or Near Miss Challenge, drive into the oncoming lane to score near miss and oncoming. Near misses with oncoming vehicles are worth more than same-way traffic, and can help you obtain Supercharged Boosting faster. This can also be used in Burnout Challenge.
