As it turns out, there is such a thing as choosing the wrong house to rob. A burglar in the US learned this the hard way earlier this month, when he broke into an apartment and found himself tackled and tied up by his victims.

When police officers finally arrived at the scene of the crime, the would-be professional burglar was lying on the floor, unable to move his arms or his legs. Check out the photo below to see for yourselves how authorities discovered him.

How the robbery attempt played out

The burglar, identified as 37-year-old Tyrone Porter, broke into John Ashton's apartment in the city of Olympia in Washington towards the end of last week, on Friday. At that time, John Ashton was away with his son.

When they finally returned home, the two men noticed that the front door to their apartment was wide open. Rather that alert authorities, they entered their home and saw for themselves what was wrong.

Much to their surprise, John Ashton and his son came face to face with 37-year-old Tyrone Porter. When the unlucky burglar tried to make a run for it, the two men wrestled him and, after pinning him to the floor, tied him up.

Afterwards, John Ashton and his son contacted authorities and asked them to drop by their apartment and pick up Tyrone Porter. Soon enough, the 37-year-old burglar was handcuffed and taken in police custody.

“We didn’t really want to hurt him, but I wasn’t gonna let him go,” John Ashton Sr. told the press in an interview, as cited by KOMO News. “It was a long wrestle,” his son John Ashton Jr. further detailed.

Not the brightest burglar in history

Not long after 37-year-old Tyrone Porter was taken into custody, the police officers sent to investigate this case recovered whatever things he did manage to steal before he was caught from the building's laundry room. Apparently, the burglar hoped to keep them there until he could return for them.

Presently, Tyrone Porter is kept behind bars at the local Thurston County jail. When the investigation into the burglary he tried to pull off is completed, he risks being sentenced to several years in prison.
