The studio’s take on reward/loot will continue to evolve

Although not the worse title launched in 2014, many have Destiny on their list of last year’s most disappointing games. It doesn’t really matter where on that list Destiny is, what it should matter is how Bungie plans to fix that in the long run.

Some of the issues like shallow story and bad voice acting are things that can’t be addressed in a short notice, but there are others like those related to loot/reward system.

Bungie did not seem to have enough experience to bring a solid reward economy system and big mistakes were made in the first Destiny DLC launched last month, The Dark Below.

However, Destiny players should rest assured that the mistakes made in this DLC will not be repeated by Bungie in the next DLC, House of Wolves.

The game’s lead designer Luke Smith took it to NeoGAF to address players’ fears that House of Wolves would be affected by the same issues present in The Dark Below DLC.

The next DLC will have a much more balanced reward/loot system

He said that “the mistakes we made with the DLC1 reward economy will not be repeated. Mistakes like vendor gear invalidating the effort of VOG Raiders, and upgrading an Exotic resetting its talents.”

As Bungie receives feedback from players regarding the reward/loot system in Destiny, they plan to improve it further, but that usually takes time and depending from where you start, it may take more or less.

“Our philosophy about rewards/loot continue to evolve as we see how players play and react,” continued Smith in the same post.

According to him, Bungie will continue to improve acquisition stories and frequency, as well as making the game less grindy and allow players to reach the fun parts of their Destiny arsenal much easier. You can read below Luke Smith’s complete post on Bungie’s plans for House of Wolves.
