A bit confusing though

Bungie is one of the most appreciated development studios in the industry, having established a name for itself by creating the critically acclaimed Halo series of first person shooters. The fact that it almost single-handedly made shooters work on consoles through its multiple Halo titles is something that needs to be appreciated.

But, after many years under the corporate umbrella of Microsoft, the studio decided to split with the large corporation, though it seems that the “love affair” is still working smoothly as the company is working on not one but two more Halo titles, the first of which is due out this September, Halo 3: ODST, and the second next year, in the form of Halo: Reach.

It seems that the latter might just be the last Halo project the company will work on, at least according to Bungie's senior designer, Lars Bakken, who revealed that a few months ago. But speaking with Videogamer at last week's GamesCon, the studio's community and PR director, Brian Jarrard, stated that things might not be so.

“The clarification is we just don't know at this point. I'm not really able to speculate on what we're going to do after Reach,” Jarrard revealed to Videogamer. When pushed further he said, “I wouldn't confirm or deny at this point. We're really excited to get Reach out the door. Beyond that, we're not at liberty to say right now what's next.

He emphasized that at the moment Reach was taking up all of the resources of the studio: “I think there's a lot of work just to get Reach done between now and next fall. At that point anything's possible. We're going to keep looking at making the games we want to make. Maybe that's Halo. Maybe it's not. We'll have to wait and see.”

So there you have it Halo fans, you just might see new content related to your beloved franchise in the near future. Until then, enjoy Halo 3: ODST and the future Halo: Reach.
