Taking players through an adventure is more important

Adrian Chmielarz, the founder of People Can Fly, has recently revealed that he does not really think gamers are interested in graphics anymore. The Bulletstorm developer continued to comment on the fact that creating an adventure is more important than advanced visuals and that huge graphical detail does not guarantee the success of a title anymore.

“The thing is, we really do not care that much,” he told CVG about game visuals. “When you take a look at the visual quality of Gears - the density of detail, so to speak - in my opinion, it kills Modern Warfare easily. But, Modern Warfare is 60 frames-per-second, and composition of the scene in Modern Warfare is really, really good. It's excellent.”

He also said that “I think right now so long as the game has a minimum level of quality, which is for us and everyone who wants to matter in this business is really high, do players really care? Seriously, if it really looks good, do we need to join race?”

This is quite surprising, given the fact that Bulletstorm was one of the most appreciated games during this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in terms of graphical prowess, Epic using the title to showcase what the current version of the Unreal Engine 3.0 is capable of. The gameplay footage shown during Electronic Art's press briefing was visually impressive, showing wide open environments and great particle effects.

Bulletstorm is the latest first person shooter to come from Epic Games. The title is being developed by Epic subsidiary People Can Fly, a studio known for creating the well-known Painkiller series, and also has Cliff Bleszinski heavily backing it as a producer. The developers are focusing on bringing an action-packed experience that will reward creative gameplay utilizing skillshots in dealing with enemies. Skillshots are creative kills that involve combined use of the leash, weapons and kicks that the game provides. The more unique and spectacular the skillshot is the more points the player receives to upgrade their weapons and abilities, and perform even crazier moves. It will launch on the 22nd of February 2011 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
