Adrian Chmielarz, a former creative director at People Can Fly, believes that the discussions about violence and theme surrounding the launch of BioShock Infinite and the Tomb Raider reboot show how the genre can evolve with next-gen consoles.

The developer tells Eurogamer that, “Some people tasted a little bit of that indie gaming, started thinking about games and then they go back to the old ways and go, ‘OK there’s something wrong here’.”

BioShock Infinite has been praised for its story and character, but many have questioned whether the shooter mechanics were a good fit for the world that Irrational Games had created.

Tomb Raider has also come under scrutiny for the way Lara Croft evolves from naïve youngster to a capable killer.

Adrian Chmielarz is currently working with his team at The Astronauts on a game called The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
