Nobody knew that there was a world record for crossing a river in a bag, and that's because there was none.

A 59-year-old man from Bulgaria is intent on setting one, nonetheless. Jane Petkov swam across a local lake in an orange bag, whilst the bag was tied up and he couldn't move his arms.

He tried the stunt in Lake Ohrid in Macedonia and he did not get himself injured. He has managed to swim for 2km (1.25 miles) in about 165 minutes completely attended. Three friends waited in a boat nearby to offer assistance in case of an emergency.

“I was very cold for the first kilometer but after that it was all fine – no problem whatsoever. Had the water been warmer, I could have [done] 10km (6 miles) or more,” he says.

There is no word on whether or not Guinness is recognizing the record for swimming in a bag, Anorak writes.
