Mozilla is running a competition for Firefox add-on developers, looking for the best submissions in several categories. A panel of judges will determine which is the best entry in each of the categories, there are six of them, and then the community will pick the overall winner.

The category winners will get a Nexus 7, to run Firefox on obviously, and the overall winner will win an 11-inch MacBook Air.

"People love their add-ons—85% of Firefox users have them installed, and there have been over 3 billion downloads since they revolutionized browsing in 2004," Mozilla explains.

"There are add-ons for almost everything under the sun: fun, productivity, personalization, even for making tea. Between June 13 – July 18, 2013, we challenge you to delight these fans by creating or updating add-ons that amp up their Firefox," it adds.

Mozilla is particularly interested in mobile add-ons with the contest, though not exclusively. In the Best Mobile Add-on category, Mozilla is looking for new creations that improve Firefox for Android.

The Best Mobile Port category is for add-ons that started out and the desktop and were converted for the mobile version of the browser. The Best Game Add-on is for add-ons that have a playful side.

The Best Complete Theme category is for themes that completely change the way Firefox looks. Since the introduction of Personas, now simply known as themes but better described as skins, complete themes have been few and far between.

There's also a category for updated add-ons, extensions that have been converted to the new Add-on SDK for example.

Entries have to come in by July 18. The contest has been live for a couple of weeks now, but there's still time to put something together. The winners won't be announced for another month after the contest ends, on around August 22nd.
