Don't know about you, but I for one eagerly await the times when we won't require to recharge our devices anymore, all the necessary power needed for them to function being zapped right trough the air, but until that day comes we will have to make do with the Powercast and Microchip wireless power development kit that should do about the same thing, provided that tinkering around with all sort of electronic parts is really your thing.

I have to admit these strangely looking PCBs look a world apart from the future I envision, although a great mind and a pair of skillful hands would most certainly manage to transform this into a really interesting wireless power delivery system.

And why shouldn't it, since this kit comes with all that is required in order to develop such a device, the Lifetime Power Energy Harvesting Development Kit featuring a wireless transmitter, a pair of receiver boards as well as a development board equipped with Microchip's proprietary short-range wireless protocols and ZigBee functionality, basically all that you need for building a wireless power delivery system.

Finally, after assembly is complete, the resulting device should be able to deliver three watts of power to a pair of receivers placed more than 40 feet away, a pretty impressive feat for something that you had build on your own.

However, this won't certainly be an easy feat, the kit being targeted more towards companies that what to build these type of wireless power delivery solutions then to the hobbyist crowd out there, as that pretty hefty $1,250 price tag associated with buying such a solution seems to prove it.

But if we leave pricing out of the equation I am sure this could lead to some interesting devices being developed, so let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope this kit will spark the interest of high-tech companies and hobbyists alike, so we get to that charger free future sooner rather than later.
