Now that Internet Explorer 9 is available for download worldwide, Microsoft is also providing a resource that enables customers to build custom installation packages featuring Internet IE9 RTW.

Essentially, the company is offering the Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) 9, which can be downloaded free of charge, just as it is the case with the latest iteration of IE.

And just as IE9 RTW, IEAK 9 is also available in no less than 39 languages, and designed to run on the same platforms supported by the successor of IE8.

Since it requires IE9 RTW to be already installed in order to run, IEAK 9 will only work on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 as well as on the server equivalents for the two, but not on Windows XP SP3.

“Windows Internet Explorer Administration Kit 9 (IEAK 9) contains programs and tools to help you customize, deploy, and administer Internet Explorer 9 within an organization or, if you are an Internet service provider or Internet content provider, for your customers,” Microsoft explained.

“IEAK can be used in network environments, with or without the Active Directory directory service.”

Customers will be able to control a variety of aspects related to the custom IE9 RTW packages, such as distribution options, but also they’ll be able to add custom components, modify the setup and browser experience, approve ActiveX controls, and refresh IE9’s settings automatically.

Users interested in customizing IE9 in this manner can head over to TechNet and access the documentation that accompanies the tool.

“Partly because of changes in Internet Explorer, you will not be able to perform the following tasks with IEAK 9 that you were able to perform with earlier versions of IEAK:

- Internet Service Providers (ISPs) cannot use the server-based sign-up feature to sign up customers over the Internet.

- The IEAK Toolkit is not available with IEAK 9,” the software giant added.

The Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) 9 is available for download here.
