Texas-based company Buffalo Technology has just announced the new AirStation WZR-D1800H wireless router and WLI-H4-D1300 wireless media bridge, on its official website.

The routers work in the 5 GHz wireless range and use the new 802.11ac wireless standard.

The 802.11ac wireless standard has not yet been ratified by IEEE, but the company is not waiting around anymore.

The technology Buffalo has implemented is based on a draft AC semi-standard and Buffalo hopes that when IEEE ratifies the technology, it will be able to make its device conform with the use of a firmware update.

Both wireless devices are fully backward compatible with 802.11a, 11b, 11g and 11n to ensure interoperability with legacy devices.

The devices will use 5 GHz range for WirelessAC functionality and the usual 2.4 GHz range for WirelessN operation, but the media bridge won’t be able to work with both ranges simultaneously.

Both devices are available today at online retailers starting from 179.99 USD. That is around 140 EUR for the European wireless enthusiast.
