Network-attached storage devices have been seeing a widespread adoption and the market for such products has been growing at the same pace as the small and medium businesses they are targeting. One company that has been focusing on the NAS market is Buffalo, which has recently revealed the availability of the TeraStation ES, a RAID-based cost-effective and reliable solution that is enhanced for businesses of all sizes and budgets.

The TeraStation is a high-performance NAS device that comes in storage capacities of 2TB, 4TB, 6TB and 8TB. It has a strong power supply, an “oversized” cooling solution and 128-bit AES encryption for security. Reliability is provided by the hot swappable drives, which enable a continuous use of the device “even in the unlikely event of a component failure.” In addition, the unit features protocol support for SMB/CIFs, NFS, FTP/SFTP, AFP and AppleTalk. This wide platform support significantly widens the possibilities for file accessing and sharing.

“In this information society, small business’ digital asset management is vital, and SMBs are in need of a solution that supports the quick storage, backup and management of data in an efficient and cost effective manner.” Ralph Spagnola, vice president of sales at Buffalo Technology, said. “With an attractive price tag and a fantastic array of features, we are confident that the new TeraStation ES is the perfect data management solution for any small business.”

The TeraStation ES is equipped with two Ethernet and two USB ports and is backed by a limited three-year warranty with 24/7 technical support. All units are, by default, configured for RAID 0, but also support RAID 1, 5, 10 and JBOD and can house up to four hard drives of 500 GB, 1.0 TB, 1.5 TB or 2.0 TB. The product measures 6.7 x 8.5 x 9.1 inches and weighs about 13.8 lbs.

Estimated prices are of $699.99 for the 2TB (TS-XE2.0TL/R5), of $899.99 for the 4TB (TS-XE4.0TL/R5), of $1,299.99 for the 6TB (TS-XE6.0TL/R5) and of $1,699.99 for the 8TB (TS-XE8.0TL/R5) version. Supported operating systems are Windows 7 (32-bit/64-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit/64-bit), Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP MCE 2005/2004, Windows Server 2008/2003 and Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.
