Usually, in order to keep customer interest fresh, hardware makers choose to rename or launch products that, while not necessarily different from the previous generation, attract more consumers through the simple fact that they are new. However, opposite situations may arise when a certain product line is popular enough to warrant an upgrade or expansion. This is the case with Buffalo's MiniStation Lite portable hard drive lineup.
Unlike the HD-PVRU2 portable HDD line that Buffalo
revealed not too long ago, the MiniStation Lite was, and still is, not designed for the USB 3.0 interface, being, instead, aimed at mainstream users that want a capacious storage drive on the go.
The incompatibility with the new standard, however, doesn't seem to have had any sort of negative impact, as the line is successful enough for the company to decide on expanding it. Seeking to further enchant fashion-conscious users, Buffalo has released a new 81 (W) x 16 (H) x 130 (D) mm device colored glossy gold.
As far as the specifications of the device are concerned, the new MiniStation Lite doesn't bring anything new except for its looks. Designed for USB 2.0, it is backward compatible with USB 1.1 ports and operates on 1.27W of power. It also comes with Memeo AutoSync, a piece of software, which automatically synchronizes the data with PCs and Mac systems. This functionality makes sure that files are always up to date. In addition, the drive boasts the SecureLockMobile backup software that encrypts stored data in order to protect it against unauthorized access.
Buffalo's MiniStation Lite portable hard drives come with prices of 50 to 100 Euro and have storage capacities of 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and even 640GB. Full information on the drives may be found on the official
product page on the company's website.
