Featuring Dominator-like cooling

Intel's recently released Core i7 processors have been designed to work on a completely new socket, more specifically the LGA1366. Said socket is currently supported by a single Intel chipset, the high-end X58, which the Santa Clara, California-based chip maker announced along with the new Core i7 processors. One of the main features of the X58 platform is that it has been designed to only support DDR3 SDRAM, which has led to the release of several new DDR3 memory kits and modules, designed by various memory makers worldwide.

Buffalo is one of those memory makers that focus on releasing high-performance memory products, designed to provide desktop computer users with higher levels of performance.

The company is now said to be readying the release of a new high-end memory kit that is to provide memory modules with clock speeds of an incredible 2200MHz. Said memory kit will be part of the company's FireStix Inferno line-up, increasing the levels of performance that can be achieved by current DDR3 memory.

As far as technical specifications go, the new FireStix Inferno memory kit is made out of two 1GB DDR3 memory modules that have been designed to boast 9-9-9-24 timings, with a 2.1V voltage. Given their rater clock speed, the FireStix Infernos require a rather decent cooling solution, which is probably why Buffalo decided to go for the Dominator-like aluminum heatsinks. A similar cooling solution can also be noticed on the Dominator series, designed by Corsair.

We are yet to find out the pricing details of the new FireStix memory kit, but when this comes out, in late January, it will be backed by a lifetime warranty. The FireStix Inferno 2200MHz 2GB DDR3 memory kit is expected to first become available in Japan.
