Buffalo released a substantial number of storage units over the past few months, each meant to address the needs of a particular market segment. There were compact, portable drives, ultra-fast USB 3.0 devices and even models with as much storage capacity as one could ever need. Coming to expand its collection of mobile storage units, Buffalo has now reportedly come forth to introduce the newest member of the MiniStation series.

The drive will become the latest addition to the HD-PXT family. To some end-users' dismay, it will not have support for the next-generation SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard, which means that the 5Gbps transfer rates won't be achievable. On the other hand, buyers will not have to worry about running out of space too soon, given that the actual capacity of the device is of no less than 1TB.

Of course, Buffalo is aware of the fact that external storage is in need of more than just raw space. All SSDs, HDDs and flash drives can be misplaced or can fall into less than desirable hands. To alleviate this problem, the company opted to implement 256-bit AES hardware encryption. Buffalo also bundled the TurboPC/TurboCopy software tools, which provide system backup features and better read and write speeds. As for the design itself, the platters are housed inside a shock-resistant shell with a wrap-around USB 2.0 cable, whereas the total weight is of 240 grams.

“Set to be available only in piano black (lower-capacity drives come in white and red too), the 1TB 2.5.-inch drive has a wrap-around USB 2.0 cable, a shock-resistant shell, it weights just 240 grams and is bundled with TurboPC/TurboCopy for improved transfer speeds and backup software,” the report states.

Buffalo's newest offspring will be sold in a piano black version, as well as with enclosures colored white end red, though these will have lower capacities. The 1TB drive should reach European stores by the end of the ongoing month, priced at roughly 135 Euro.
