Buffalo has long been a supplier of all sorts of storage solutions, and it seems that its most recent products are of the portable hard drive variety, them being new, SuperSpeed-ready models.

Portable hard disk drives have come to be quite widespread on the worldwide market over the past years.

While at one point, floppy disks and/or CDs were the primary means of transferring data from a PC to another, the rise of portable storage drives changed things drastically.

Flash drives, of course, remain prominent for their portability and compactness, but portable HDDs have their own advantages in massive storage capacities.

There is also the fact that the 2.5-inch and, though more recent, the 1.8-inch form factors are very compact as well.

Basically, now that portable HDDs can easily be carried around in a pocket, it is no surprise to hear that Buffalo has created a new series of them, especially considering the interface choice.

USB 3.0 is well known for the theoretical maximum throughput of 5 Gbps (ten times what USB 2.0 allows), so Buffalo did not hold back and implemented it in the MiniStation 3.0.

Said line is composed of two models, at least for now, their capacities being of 500 GB and 1 TB, respectively.

They are said to be available in two color options, black and white coatings to be more precise, while they measure 77 x 14/17 x 114 mm.

Additionally, the hard disk drives have a good level of energy efficiency, thanks to the eco manager software bundled with them.

In fact, in addition to that program, the bundle also includes applications meant for data backup and encryption.

Japanese stores should receive the MiniStation 3.0 models by the end of February, their prices being of $141 for the 500 GB unit and $206 for the 1 TB drive.
