Buffalo has released many storage devices over the years, so it is no shock to learn that it finished its latest offer, especially since it is of the portable variety and almost ready to rumble.

The market for hard disk drives hay have suffered from the rapid rise in popularity of solid state drives, but they are not even close to being endangered yet.

They also still retain their price and capacity advantages, especially when it comes to internal desktop units.

Buffalo didn't make that sort of unit, however, choosing to make a portable HDD instead, part of the MiniStation 3.0 line.

The main asset of the drive is, beyond any doubt, the sheer capacity, namely 1.5 TB, which is nothing to scoff at for such a compact unit.

For those that want the exact details of the size, shape and weight, the new MiniStation 3.0 measures 77 (W) x 114 (D) x 20 (H) mm and weighs 255 grams.

Two color versions will be available to users from Japan once shipments commence (the start of sales is set to occur at some point during mid-September, 2011).

Said models will be distinguished purely by their colors, as the bundle is the same in both cases, down to the data backup, encryption and power saving software.

Those colors are crystal black and crystal white (the casings have a glossy finish).

The price was not disclosed in the formal announcement, so prospective buyers will have to wait until the actual availability time if they want to know for sure just how worthwhile a purchase 1.5 TB of portable storage are.

In the meantime, users can keep an eye on what is happening now that the 2011 edition of the IFA trade show is about to kick off, and already has brought forth some official announcements.
