On the heels of Seagate's announcement of the NAS HDD, Buffalo has launched the latest series of network-attached storage devices, although it doesn't seem to have made any pact with Seagate for equipping them.

That shouldn't stop clients from purchasing some of those drives on their own though, as soon as they show up anyway.

The name of the new line of network-attached storage devices is LinkStation 400 Series. There are two models so far: one with a single bay and one with two.

The single-bay model, called LinkStation 410, can have 2 TB ($229.99 / €229.99), 3 TB ($259.99 / €259.99) or 4 TB ($339.99 / €399.99).

LinkStation 420, the dual-bay model can go from 2 TB ($279.99 / €279.99) to 4 TB ($399.99 / €399.99), to 6 TB ($499.99 / €499.99) and, further, to 8 TB ($699.99 / €699.99).

The dual-bay model can sell without HDDs too, for $169.99 / €169.99. Or will sell at some point this month.

"In today's digital world, personal files, photos and media have to be in one central location and easily accessible, or else that data is nearly impossible to maintain," said Hajime Nakai, chief executive officer at Buffalo Technology (USA), Inc.

"LinkStation 400 neatly integrates into any home or small office network, helping users organize their content with reliable storage and backup, media streaming and simple P2P sharing with a free personal cloud service for remote access and mobile apps for on-the-go."

The LinkStation 400 NAS devices all have DLNA certifications and can stream to any connected device, from PCs to tablets, smartphones, etc.

It even lets users set up free personal clouds with easy remote access over the Internet. Transfer speeds can go to 100 MB/s, almost three times what standard NAS units can do. Or so Buffalo claims.

The product pages have more info on each: LinkStation 410, LinkStation 420, and LinkStation 421e Diskless Enclosure.
