Buffalo has released the 1.32 firmware update compatible with the LinkStation 410, 420, and 421e network storages, which includes various fixes that resolve vulnerabilities of Bash programming.

For those who don’t know about this bug, Bash programming gives certain users the ability to execute arbitrary commands. In other words, through version 1.32, the targeted NASes get CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169 vulnerabilities fixed.

As for the downloadable packages, the producer has made available two archives: one suitable for Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later platforms, and the other compatible with Microsoft’s Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems (except for XP 32-bit).

Therefore, in order to benefit from an improved security level, save and unzip the appropriate packages, connect the LinkStation to the computer, ensure the devices are on the same subnet, and close all programs and processes that might interfere with the upgrade.

Now run the available setup from the newly created folder, select the unit you want to update (if multiple devices are connected), click “Update,” and follow the on-screen instructions for a complete and successful upgrade.

During the upgrade process, make sure you don’t turn off, reboot, or disconnect the Linkstation, as this will not only crash the installation but also cause serious device malfunctions. Upon completion, a proper message will be displayed.

That being told, download Buffalo LinkStation 400 NAS Series Firmware 1.32, apply it on your device, and constantly check our website in order to stay “updated one minute ago.”
