The next-generation IEEE 802.11ac wireless networking standard isn’t expected to be complete until the end of the year, but this hasn’t stopped Buffalo from announcing the AirStation WZR-1750H router which will support this technology.

According to Buffalo, its upcoming AirStation router is built around a chipset that is fully compatible with the 802.11ac technology, which enables it to achieve wireless speeds of up to 1300Mbps.

Also known as 5G Wi-Fi, the new standard claims to offer interference-free connectivity, faster throughput and broader coverage thanks to the use of the 5GHz radio band that is less densely populated.

In addition to supporting 802.11ac, the WZR-1750H is also compatible with the IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n standards (up to 450Mbps) and comes equipped with five Gigabit Ethernet ports. The total aggregate wireless throughput of the WZR-1750H is set at 1750Mbps.

"Buffalo has always been at the forefront of wireless technology, proven by the delivery of the first Draft G and Draft N wireless products to the market," says Paul Hudson, Sales Director, Northern Europe at Buffalo Technology.

"Delivering a cost-effective, high performance Wi-Fi solution that leverages the next generation 802.11ac technology is just part of Buffalo's ongoing commitment to innovation, engineering excellence and enabling consumers to use current and future technology in the home and in the cloud," concluded the company’s rep.

Buffalo hasn’t released any info regarding the price of the WZR-1750H 802.11ac router, but the company did say that this is expected to come out in the second half of this year.

In conjunction with the high-speed router, Buffalo plans to launch the WLI-TX4-1300H, an 802.11ac media bridge packing four Gigabit Ethernet port that allows any Ethernet device to connect to an 802.11ac network.
