Buffalo Technology is one of the computer hardware manufacturing companies that is focused almost exclusively on the portable storage hard disk drive solutions as these devices are becoming very popular and widely used. The Japanese company recently announced the launch of a new product that is aimed at computer users needing additional storage capabilities in the form of an external and portable
solution.

The new product from Buffalo Technology is expected to boost the read and write performance on the portable class of external storage devices thanks to its unique technology, the TurboUSB. According to the news site the-tech-center, this new technology that is implemented in the Buffalo's MiniStation product significantly reduces the file transfer overhead, while improving the file access speed as well as the overall transfer rates.

In order to achieve a higher level of performance over the standard Universal Serial Bus 2.0 file transfer protocol, the new Buffalo Technology MiniStation external storage device integrates an optimized driver and controller chip combination, while on the inside, this new product is based on a standard 2.5 inch notebook hard disk drive that comes in capacities ranging from 80GB to 300GB.

Additionally, the Buffalo MiniStation also comes with a wrap-around USB cable as well as a shock resistant casing that protects the internal drive. This new portable storage device is priced in quite a wide range, as it can be found for as little as $100 or for as much as $315, depending on the integrated storage capabilities. While no independent performance benchmarks of the special Buffalo made TurboUSB data transferring interface exist, the manufacturing company claims that the performance boost is ranging from 6 percent to 37 percent for the 3.5-inch DriveStation drives, and 64 percent for the 2.5-inch MiniStation.
