The Canadian rocker, Bryan Adams performed for 10,000 fans at a concert in Karachi on Sunday, in order to help students affected by country's October 8 earthquake. This was the first big event organized by a Western singer in Pakistan in decades.
"Summer of 69" singer thrilled the audience and said that he was surprised and glad at the same time to discover new fans in Pakistan. "I am here because this city has a special love for music," Adams said.
He also said that the purpose of coming to Pakistan was not only to please the fans, but also to help the victims of the earthquake in northern Pakistan: "The whole idea of coming to Pakistan is very exciting on many levels ... we are the first Western artists to come and play a big concert here. We are going to raise a lot of money hopefully to help rebuild some schools in the areas that have been devastated."
There were about 3 million people left homeless by the disaster and 73,000 people died in this quake. Among them, there were 17,000 children killed in schools. Even if the disaster from Pakistan scared the whole world, Adams said he was not worried about coming to this country.
The singer is to meet President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in Islamabad today.
