Former Scientologist makes dancing debut, good friend Jennifer Lopez is there

Leah Remini made her Dancing With the Stars debut last night, as season 17 of the hit ABC competition kicked off. Above is her Foxtrot with partner Toni Dovolani, set to a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry on Their Own.”

These past several months, Leah has been getting a lot of press after defecting from Scientology, a move that, she says, left her pretty much friendless.

She still has one good friend she can count on, though: Jennifer Lopez was there to cheer her on for her dancing debut, and might have even shed a tear when she saw how great she did.

Because, honestly, for a woman who claims she never danced in her life, Leah did fabulous. Even judge Bruno Tonioli agreed and even told her that she’d been so sassy he almost expected her to break out into twerking like Miley Cyrus.

That was a compliment that backfired, clearly, because Leah didn’t seem too impressed by the comparison.

Leah and Toni earned a 21 score for their first dance.
