In June last year, singer Bruno Mars went through a very difficult time after losing his mother, Bernadette Hernandez, who was just 55 years old when she died of an aneurysm. Last night at the Super Bowl 2014, he paid a very loving and sweet tribute to her.

As you might have heard already, Bruno was the performer booked for the Halftime show at the Super Bowl XLVII, which took place on Sunday at the MetLife stadium in New Jersey. He shared the stage with his Hooligans and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Above is a video of his performance in full and, in case you missed the tribute, look for it right at the beginning of the clip.

In the segment that shows Bruno playing the drums, you will notice that the name “Bernadette” is written on the kit, encased by a heart like an old-fashioned sailor’s tattoo. That’s Bruno’s way of paying his respects to his late mother, to whom he was very close.

“Bruno I am so so proud of you. I knew this was going to happen but not this extent. I still think of him as my baby and keep forgetting he is a grown man. We're a very close family… I think that's what I want my kids to develop and carry on for the next generation,” Ms. Hernandez said after the Grammys 2011, where Bruno was nominated 7 times.
