Crooner is king of the charts and a hit with fans, but still incredibly humble

Bruno Mars has had a solid 2013: his most recent album, released precisely one year ago, continued to sell like hot cakes, he’s seen his singles climb up the national and international charts, all the while enjoying a lot of attention online as well. Remember his sizzling “Gorilla” video?

With this in mind, it’s not difficult to understand why Billboard has named him Artist of the Year 2013, a distinction that, his fans will surely agree, he deserved more than any other artist.

Because that’s what Bruno Mars is: he’s no pop star and he’s no studio-owned, PR-machine manufactured singer. He’s an artist who invests time, effort and feeling into every little aspect of the creative process, and whose music thrills millions from all over the world.

As if that weren’t enough to make you love him, Bruno Mars is also the exact opposite of a celebrity. He lives his life mostly out of the spotlight unless he has something new to promote, and he’s still incredibly humble and down to earth, even though he’s one of the hottest musical acts of recent years.

“What makes you artist of the year? Can we throw ‘best jump shot’ in there?” he muses in Billboard interview.

“It's flattering,” he adds, as if the reality of it had finally sunk in. “It's just an honor. I'm proud to be a part of this whole team that I have,” he says.

And we’re proud and happy he got what he deserved after a year of hard work.
