Spies say the singer did not cheat on his wife

Exactly one week ago, Bruce Springsteen’s name appeared in divorce papers filed in court by a businessman, as the “other man” in his wife’s life. Since the singer is also married, it was believed he was cheating on his wife of 18 years with Arthur J. Kelly’s estranged spouse. Now, sources close to the singer are telling the media that the reality is far from that, and the woman with whom he allegedly had the affair is actually a stalker.

The National Enquirer (via Perez Hilton) managed to get in touch with people in Springsteen’s entourage to get their side of the story, given that the singer has refrained from commenting on the situation until now. They paint an entirely different picture from the one described in court papers, saying that Mrs. Kelly was actually “obsessed” with him, which is why she might have told her husband that she was romantically involved with him.

“The wife pestered Bruce, but he didn’t have an affair with her. He’s freaked out that he was named in her divorce because he barely knows her. She seemed almost obsessed with Bruce… I think Bruce was scared of her.” one such (unnamed) friend tells the paper. Also according to this spy, the woman could be doing this not only to get her revenge on her husband, but also to cash in on Springsteen’s fame, although the exact manner in which she would do so is not explained.

“This is a classic case of someone taking advantage of Bruce just because he’s famous. When Bruce was a member at The Atlantis Club in Red Bank, this woman would manage to ‘run into’ him when he was working out and start chatting him up like they were old friends.” the same spy further explains. As we also reported, the Kellys used to live in West Long Branch, which is close to Springsteen’s Asbury Park residence, so running into him every now and then would have been possible, several media outlets are pointing out.

Nevertheless, how exactly Mr. Kelly came to believe that his wife was cheating on him with Springsteen is still unclear. He claimed in court papers that she had “committed adultery with one Bruce Springsteen... at various times and places too numerous to mention,” but whether this was something he could confirm himself or that he just knew from his wife is yet to be determined.
