Bruce Jenner has been in the spotlight for way longer than he would have liked, but it turns out that the attention won’t go away just because he wills it to or because he’s no longer married to Kris Jenner. And painting his nails bright pink is certainly not helping.

For a couple of years now, Bruce has been the subject of rumors that he’s transitioning from male to female, with some, even more audacious reports, claiming that he’s already in talks to get gender reassignment surgery.

Bruce never addressed these rumors directly, but his estranged / soon-to-be-ex-wife Kris did – and denied them every time. As she sees it, there’s nothing wrong with a man wanting to get work on his face or grow out his hair or get a manicure every once in a while.

Men wearing makeup and pampering themselves are still men

Kris is right: there is nothing wrong with a man wanting to take better care of himself. Just because he doesn’t jump out of bed, washes his face, and just throws some clothes on, because he likes to put some thought into what he’ll wear and how he’ll style himself, it doesn’t mean he’s any less of a man.

Metrosexuals these days even wear skinny jeans that are tighter than women’s models, and they get their eyebrows waxed, their hair dyed, and a manicure on a regular basis. Some even wear makeup (the “guyliner” term was invented especially for the eyeliner used by men), and some even wear nail polish, either in dark blue or classic black.

It’s all been done before, and no one questioned the orientation or gender of a male celebrity who did it. If Marilyn Manson puts on makeup, it’s because it’s part of his on-stage persona. If Dave Navarro paints his nails, it’s because he’s trendy. If Lenny Kravitz wears platform shoes, it’s because he’s so infinitely cool he can pull off absolutely any look.

But the narrative changes drastically when Bruce does it, partly because he doesn’t seem the type that would paint his nails just to be in the fashion.

There’s no denying the photographic evidence

Then, there’s the photographic evidence. Being part of the most photographed and mediated family in reality television means that whatever you change about your appearance is documented and available online, whether that’s a haircut or getting your lips plumped for a more youthful and sensual appearance.

So there’s no denying the fact that Bruce has been doing things to his face: he got a facelift, he got his lips plumped, he got his Adam’s apple shaved. Allegedly. He also grew out a ponytail and is often seen sporting a French manicure.

Even if he’s not in the middle of transitioning to female, he can’t deny that he’s been changing – and not just in the sense that he’s growing older. The mere fact that he hardly looks like himself anymore should be the winning argument in this kind of conversation.

Turning 65 with a bang

On his 65th birthday, Bruce Jenner treated himself to a manicure, TMZ photos confirm. You can see one of them attached to this article as well: that’s Bruce sneaking a cigarette in Los Angeles after getting his nails painted bright pink.

So, the buzz right now is that this is “definite confirmation” that he’s becoming a woman. Well, the pink nail polish and the fuller lips, which are also obvious in the photo included here.

Before we jump to any conclusions though, we should probably consider this: Halloween is just right around the corner. Could be Bruce getting ready for his costume a few days in advance, by getting a pink mani? What do you think?
