In April 2015, former Olympian and current famous reality star Bruce Jenner came out as a transwoman in an interview with Diane Sawyer, thus putting an end to years of speculation on his obsession with plastic surgery and penchant for cross-dressing in the privacy of his own home.

The 2-hour interview was followed by a 2-part E! special, called Keeping Up with the Kardashians: About Bruce, in which Bruce helped his family, including ex-wife Kris Jenner and step-daughters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe, come to terms with his reality. In July, E! will also air an entire Bruce-centered docuseries, taking viewers into his transition.

It is currently in production, which means cameras are tagging along wherever he’s going. They will probably capture his recovery from gender reassignment surgery, which is said to have taken place 3 weeks ago.

Bruce Jenner is now legally a woman

Radar Online reports that, though he was reluctant to offer an exact date for his surgery on About Bruce, he had everything planned out. He underwent the intervention 3 weeks ago and is now recovering.

On the special, when asked if he was going to have full gender reassignment surgery, he said that this was the last thing a transperson would do, because there was so much more work. Asked if he’d set a date, he answered that he had not because he hadn’t even thought about it yet. However, he added, the time for that would come soon.

As per the report, Bruce is very happy with the results, but the report adds, he’s somewhat surprised that the procedure turned out to be more painful than he expected.

The surgery lasted for 8 hours, and Bruce has been recovering at his home, where he’s often visited by family. He is now legally a woman.

Big reveal is timed with docuseries

Bruce Jenner says he’s speaking out after decades of keeping the secret because he wants to help others who might be experiencing the shame and guilt (and bullying) that comes before accepting you’re transgender.

He is the first high-profile celebrity not only to come out as transgender, but to actually take the public into his journey, and in this sense, his contribution to the LGBT community is priceless.

However, he’s also using his journey to further push the Kardashian brand. Because of his ties with it, he isn’t allowed to make the big reveal and introduce Her to the world until the docuseries airs.

“Bruce is officially, and for all legal purposes, considered a woman,” a spy tells Radar. “Bruce’s kids have never seen him so happy. They just wish he would publicly start living as a woman, but contractually, he has to keep it under wraps until the docuseries premieres.”

So far, Bruce has not disclosed his female identity, referring to it only as Her. Kim Kardashian has revealed that she knows Bruce’s new name, but won’t disclose it until he does it. She also says Her will “slay” in the fashion department.
