Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood is a video game developed by Gearbox Software for the publisher
Ubisoft Entertainment. It was launched in October, 2005. It was released on the PlayStation 2 gaming console from Sony, the Xbox and the PC. The game is classed as a war title with a tactical focus and is played from a first person perspective. It aims to provide an accurate simulation of combat in World War II.
The game tells the story of Corporal Joe Hartsock, aka Red. He is one of the members of the advanced force of paratroopers that lands in Normandy just prior to the actual invasion with the declared purpose of taking out German rear areas and causing havok. The game will serve as a narrative which shows the player how Red went through the war.
The game engine that powers Earned in Blood is pretty much the same as the one that powered the original Brothers in Arms, with a few minor tweaks to the textures. The enemy AI, meanwhile, has received a lot of attention from the programmers at Gearbox, resulting in a much tougher single player campaign, with areas such as the Bocage being very hard to negotiate. As in the previous releases in the series, cover and fire team mechanics are essential to getting the job done. A player needs to be aware of the tactical situation while also making sure that the squads he commands are in the best position.
