Chicago's Brookfield Zoo announces the birth of an adorable snow leopard cub

On August 23, staff at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo went public with the news that a snow leopard cub had been born at this animal sanctuary.

The cub presently weighs around 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms). It is playful and healthy, not to mention that is has the single most adorable blue eyes I've had the chance to see in quite a while.

Tree Hugger tells us that, for the time being, snow leopards are listed as an endangered species.

They risk going extinct due to the fact that humans have destroyed a large portion of their natural habitats in Central Asia.

Overhunting has also contributed to the decrease in their population, conservationists say.

The Brookfield Zoo's new arrival was born as a result of efforts to breed this species in captivity. By doing so, conservationists hope to keep the world's snow leopard population from declining any further.
