Well here’s this for a shocking elimination on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars: as season 18 is about to premiere in March, fans who have gotten used to seeing Brooke Burke-Charvet as co-host since season 10 will have to get used to NOT seeing her. She’s been fired.

The move comes as a complete shock both for the fans and for Brooke herself. She took to Twitter some hours ago to voice her dismay at the news, which, word has it, she got just hours before the network went public with it.

“Weird day ... Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS …ME. Tom Bergeron didn't even read my name. I won't be returning to the show this season,” she wrote.

Tom was her co-host, with whom she shared hosting duties since 2010. Brooke first appeared as contestant on the show and went on to become champion and take home the mirrorball trophy.

In a statement to Gossip Cop, Brooke elaborates on her tweet to explain that she was, indeed, fired. “I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture,” she says.

“I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake,” Brooke concludes.

ABC has also issued a statement to confirm that she won’t be on the show when it returns for a new season but, as expected, it doesn’t say a word about whether she was fired or the decision was mutual.

“We can confirm that Brooke Burke-Charvet will not be joining us next season. She’s been a wonderful part of the Dancing With the Stars family since her triumphant win in season seven and will unquestionably be missed by our entire team. We’d like to thank Brooke for her years of great service,” Executive Producer Conrad Green says.
