Broke Shields criticized Tom Cruise comments about the post natal depression, calling them "a disservice to mothers everywhere".
"I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression," Shields wrote in a newspaper column. Brooke started to take anti-depression after the birth of daughter Rowan Francis in 2003.
She said that Cruise's comments "are a disservice to mothers everywhere. To suggest that I was wrong to take drugs to deal with my depression, and that instead I should have taken vitamins and exercised shows an utter lack of understanding about postpartum depression and childbirth in general."
Last week, invited in "Today" show, Tom Cruise was asked by the the host Matt Lauer about his comments regarding Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants ( Ritalin).
''You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do,'' Cruise said.
''Matt, Matt, you don't even -- you're glib,'' Cruise responded. "You don't even know what Ritalin is. If you start talking about chemical imbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, OK. That's what I've done."
