Brittney Griner, the biggest star in women’s basketball and the first pick in this week’s WNBA draft, is gay and proud. Check out the video above to hear her openly talk about being gay in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

Asked about the difference between men and women’s sports when it comes to being gay and coming out, Brittney says she can’t explain it, but her advice to anyone out there is to just “be who you are.”

“Don't worry about what other people are going to say, because they're always going to say something, but, if you're just true to yourself, let that shine through. Don't hide who you really are,” she says.

She also talks about coming out to her parents and how that wasn’t really that big a deal either.

“I wouldn't say I was hiding or anything like that. I've always been open about who I am,” Griner says.

“So, it wasn't hard at all. If I can show that I'm out and I'm fine and everything's OK, then hopefully the younger generation will definitely feel the same way,” she adds.
