Many people find it pretty difficult to look great in photos due to a number of reasons. So every little trick that might help them is welcomed. Many of them turn to digital editing technologies, such as Photoshop, in order to make them look better - a research conducted by Canon revealed. According to the findings, one in five respondents said that he/she used photo manipulation utilities to change some aspects of the pictures, 41 percent of the ones with ages between 16-24 admitting it.

Just for the record, and without any connection to the Internet life, Canon also revealed that 52 persons of the respondents confirmed they are holding in their stomachs for photos "rising to 60% of women, making looking fat our biggest fear".

In case you're looking for a reason to do such a thing, you should know that many of those who turn to digital editing attempt to make their photos look better for publishing them on social networking websites such as MySpace or Facebook. Actually, by doing this, they believe the chances of attracting more friends and meet new people are increased.

"The popularity of social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace (78% of total UK online population is part of a social networking site ), and photo-sharing sites, such as Flickr, ups the pressure for people to look good in every picture, as previously private photos are now being displayed to a public audience (often without the subject's permission)", Canon mentioned in the report.

With more and more advanced but easy-to-use technologies released by the software companies, the photo editing process becomes accessible to most Internet users. For example, Adobe, the famous producer of Photoshop, announced a freeware web-based flavor of the application which is supposed to allow consumers to modify their pages straight from the window of their browser.
