Brit Brit is stepping up - and appears to be trying to put the VMAs behind her. She's certainly had enough publicity and media attention to last her 10 lifetimes, so she has decided on a very sensible move - which is, trying to keep her custody battle with ex hubby K-Fed as private as possible. This is why she dressed in her longest dress yet, plucked up her courage and decided to ask for an unscheduled meeting with Federline and his lawyer to try to find a way to settle this nicely.
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline (assisted by Mark Vincent Kaplan) met in the office of Laura Wesser, Britney's lawyer. The meeting was Brit's idea, and a source in her entourage reports that "Britney asked for [the meeting]. She wants to put an end to this public debacle. However, Kevin [has] refused. He needs more money so he's determined to win this".
I was wondering when Britney would come to her senses - realize that it's best not to put fuel on the fire, and try to settle things quietly. But apparently, the court documents released at the end of August and in which it was showed that she's got an income of $737,868 a month (out of which Ferderline receives $20.000 a month in spousal support but with no "net income after business expenses") made K-Fed realize there could be some more dough in for him - if he plays it smartly.
Of course, I could be wrong and this could not be about the money. A source from team K-Fed states that there is no financial interest involved from his part. "He's not going for additional child support in the court papers that were filed. It's not about the money", the source commented.
The fact is, K-Fed has all the reasons in the world to feel confident. After all, he's been lying low while his ex wife has not only publicly humiliated (that, however, is part of her professional life and has no relevance to her abilities to be a good mother) but also - and this is the troublesome part - has been hitting about half a dozen clubs in Vegas over the weekend instead of projecting a responsible image, which would have meant more focus on rehearsals and less alcohol.
It remains to be seen where this will go. The next hearing takes place in just 5 days' time, and then we will know more about where the custody fight is headed. Stay tuned, and we'll keep you posted.
