When the cover for the September issue of 'Allure' came out, featuring a topless and brunette Britney Spears, I bet the only thing that went through people's minds was 'Gee! She looks fierce!'. At least, that's what I thought. And, then, I took a closer look at the cover and the photo: there was nothing fierce about Britney herself, but the retouching and massive airbrushing they did on her photo was indeed what we call 'fierce'.
We all know that Britney has made somehow of a habit out of scheduling interviews with popular magazines and then bailing out on them or walking out in the middle of the session. The same happened with 'Allure', with which Britney was supposed to do a tell-all interview that, unfortunately, never happened. But, at least, they were lucky enough to score a photo shoot with the pop tart that they later got to Photoshop to the max - if topless pics of fake Brit Brit don't bring in the big buck, I don't know what will. Don't get me wrong, the photos look amazing, in a way that Britney hasn't looked in years. However, that doesn't make them any more real than they are: we all know how Britney really looks and it's not like this, that much is for sure. But still, seeing her like this, it does bring back the nostalgia for the times long gone, doesn't it?
The caption on the cover of the mag goes something like this: 'Britney tells us nothing - and everything!'. While the editor who was supposed to interview her never got the pleasure, she does manage to fill a couple of pages recounting the way in which Britney behaved during the photo shoot. 'Britney showed up for Allure's cover shoot on time and ready to work. She was entirely unselfconscious: She took off her wig and then stripped down to the waist, for no apparent reason, before sitting for hair and makeup.', editor Linda Wells reveals in this issue of the mag.
The same side of the story accompanies these outtakes from the photo shoot: apparently, Britney refused to sit in for pictures with her natural hair, choosing instead the dark wig that you see her with. Also, it was her choice to pose topless (like we didn't know that she has breasts!) and to wear nothing else but her own Dolce&Gabbana jeans and her own jewelry (represented here by a Cartier bracelet). However, she did not make the past mistake of refusing to have her hair and make-up did by professional stylists, like a while ago, when she opted for her friends to make her look good for the 'OK!' photo shoot.
Frankly, I don't know what more to say? Actually, I could think of a couple of things, but I'm not sure it's appropriate or very polite. I will, however, add that, no matter how good the pictures look, they don't show even half of the truth. There's so little Britney in the girl we see here that she could have been missing from the photo shoot altogether and we wouldn't have noticed it. And, while topless pics are always very fun, maybe it's time Britney hung her breasts and called it a day. We all know she has them, and that she's overdoing this whole 'I'm naked, sexy and back' thing. It's just not working any more.
